I was out sailing last night when I had my rudder lock down line break making it near impossible to control as the rudder rides up
(I was being a bit rough with it through a kelp bed)
Easy fix - Use the "Rudder Up" transportation bungee to hold the rudder down.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10214537515528460&set=pcb.10214537520288579&type=3&theater

Glad to hear that works Nzindy. That's been my backup plan too but I have never actually tried it. I leave that bungee attached to the aft boat handle and slip it under the mast bungee while underway. It's ready if I need it. Good post. I know friends that have had that happen. Best to plan ahead.

Clever, I'll have to remember that one. That would also help when the rudder pin breaks, and your running on the rudder safety strings. I don't know about anyone else, but I simply can't replace a broken rudder pin in rough seas, just too hard for me to do, believe me I've tried many times.
