Post subject:  Furler Line Guide installation issue won't fit on a 2011 AI

Hi there,

I received my free upgrades a few weeks ago and have finally found time to start installing them.

However, I ran into an immediate issue with the Furler Line Guide - it doesn't seem possible to install it on my 2011 A.I.

The new line guide blocks the operation of the mast lock 'trigger'. I followed the supplied instructions, but I can't see any way to get it to fit.

(see attached pictures).

Cheers,

Mike.

I would guess that you could file the parts to fit? The longest part is well under the bearing.

What if you mounted the part one more hole clockwise?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses...

Is there a difference between earlier/later model A.I.s that causes this? Matt?

Moving or filing it down isn't really an option -surely filing it would create a gap under the lower edge of the guide, which would negate the entire reason for installing it in the first place?

Moving it further back would still interfere with the mast-release mechanism.

I'm just a bit perplexed that it clearly won't fit - surely this must be a problem that others have experienced?

Cheers,

Mike.

I'm not sure the year model that changed this gap. Possibly 2015? and all Tandems. I'll have to ask engineering about use on older models.

Engineering thinks filing off the tip (being flush with the lever would prevent the line from getting under the bearing plate too) is the answer to being able to use on older boats. We don't have one here to test unfortunately.

I just found this... I reckon kayakingbob's suggection is a better one than modifying the part. It will be just as effective (which quite frankly is not all that much) compared to the position shown in the instructions.

BTW, it fitted as per instructions on my 2012 TI
