Thanks to a warning by a recent WaterTribe post I pulled and inspected my bolt the other day. All was well so I greased and re-installed it. I did notice that some nuts on the turnbuckles had worked loose so I tightened those. I'll be "checking under the hood" more frequently now in order to avoid bolt failure to the extent I can.

How ....simple .. :- )
Hobie TI : 8639 euros
Trempolines : 528 euros
cart : 369 euros
Trailer : 1590 euros
Smalls parts : ....
So 12 000 / 13 000 dollars

For the same price it is possible to have a "true serious" boat !
So for this price i thought i will have an indestructible nice small boat or if it's not the case .....an irreproachable after sales service ! not a response like ..."you screew to be broken ...it is normal ...just change it" ! :-(
..Sorry I'm still a little pissed off, haven't been able to use my boat for a year now.

The mast step bolt just sheared off for a second time yesterday in my Hobie TI 2015. This time in only moderate wind with no spinnaker up. Last time I managed, with much difficulty, to cut a slit in the top of the sheared off bolt with a hacksaw and remove the old one with a scewdriver. This time it is deeper down. I share the frustration of others in this thread. It seems obvious that this is a design flaw that Hobie should rectify.... what to do now? The repair will be long and difficult but why bother if it's just going to break again....

Agree,

The Hobie 2015 and older have a 1/4 inch bolt vs. the newer TIs with the 3/16" bolt.

I have popped this bolt before.... not fun.

If you routinely sail in higher winds / rough water conditions / off shore / coastal conditions.... my recommendation....move up to a newer TI..... This is the path I have chosen.

If sailing on small lakes in light winds - you should have no problems....just keep an eye on it and swap out a new bolt every few years. Avoid the spinnaker also....unless you have a newer TI.
