I just bought a used TI and the drain plug fell out because one of the T branches had been sheered off previously. I have a new plug. How do I insert it without damaging it?

I was thinking to use needle nose pliers to squeeze the two T branches together to slide into the hole. Does that sound safe enough?

Tip the end bar over to align with the shaft coming from the plug. It will pop back to square once in place.
