Post subject:  Tandem Islander - Mast Failure

Found a fix - inserted a Chain Link fence - end post 1 7/8" galvanized/vinyl coated approx 13" into the throat of the bottom of mast coated with dishwashing liquid. Gently using a rubber mallet & wood block while bending the fractured piece straight. Used an piece of the tube cutoff to slide it further up the throat so that the bottom cup could be inserted. Have to re-epoxy it.
While placing the mast back in & checking the mast in place I saw that the securing mechanism could not lock it down.
I noticed that the roller furler spool had risen up the mast approx 1/2", could see where it had been epoxied onto the mast. Took the wooden block and gently hit it back into place, now locking in, Need to re-epoxy it now.
Having read a few post's on this site on Hobie Mast's made me realize that the possibility of age & operator error, maybe a combination which resulted in the fracture. My Islander is a 2012 model.
