If you're the only one using the Mirage drive, try removing the adjusting hardware and bolting the drums to the pedal shafts.
The older drives were known to do that if you pedaled real hard. The newer V2 shouldn't do that though.

The 1st thing is my mirage drive I have broken 3 of them the dealer has fix them each time I have be told Im not the only one. The 2nd thing is my steering is not the greatest it the handle keeps from turning as sharp as it sould. |

What on the drive has given you issue? The steering, if properly adjusted, will allow a VERY tight turn radius. Turning the rudder further will simply act as a break. |

Don't mean to hijack master bugger's thread, but I've had the teeth on the sprocket of the mirage drive break. Took it to my dealer and he ordered a new one for me...had to pay. Not covered by warranty? |

On the pedal adjustment setting strip... can happen on a V2 as well if you pedal really hard. We are working on further strengthening, but yes, the bolt idea works really well if you don's share the drive. On the sprocket teeth failure... If you beach on concrete, rocks or pebbles get in and damage the teeth, not covered, but these don't fail often under normal use. |

I don't see any sign of stress or feel looseness in the pedals due to elongation of the adjustment hole. That said, should I consider the bolts as a preventive measure? Reconlon, do you have specifics on the hardware you used? Thanks! TDK |

Your PA is never going to steer like a car. At very, very slow speeds, the rudder isn't going to have quick effect, if any. But once you're moving just a bit it will work fine. Keep in mind you're not on pavement with tires under you - the current, wind and slip in the water mean that a boat doesn't steer as positively as a car or similar. I have 2 mirage drives and have yet to have a moment's trouble with them. I did bend a mast and tear a fin, but both were my fault. I don't doubt that a few experience problems but overall it seems to be a very sound design that works without issue for thousands of anglers. I wonder what the lifespan on such a drive is. Under normal conditions and with good maintenance, how many miles will a Mirage Drive last? Anybody know? |

TDK wrote: do you have specifics on the hardware you used? SS hex head bolts 5/16 x 1 1/2 (1 5/8 overall length), 5/16 SS washer and 5/16 hex head Nyloc Nut. 5/16 fits pretty snug, so it will work on a drive that has already ripped out the hole. Be sure to use Nyloc nuts, so they won't loosen. |

It seem that there is to much friction from the steel pin and the plastic so thats why it my give. Due to heat. |

Once the pin is set in the position you desire, there shouldn't be any friction - those parts don't move against each other. ......... |

I belive there is due to the fact is after peddling hard then going on the beach I came back then paddle to deep water then started peddling easy and it came out of the hole I look at it and it look melted around the hole. |

The pin doesn't move in the hole. There is no friction between them. However, if for some reason the pin wasn't fully inserted into the hole on the drive unit, then it is possible that you wallowed out the hole while pedaling. But this isn't going to happen if the pin is fully inserted. |
