I am limited on space in the garage with Dad's bassboat and my wife's car taking up most of the room. I have always hung my kayaks up from the rafters to store them before, but the size and weight of my PA has posed some new problems. I started off with a double pulley system attached to the front and rear handles. I am so afraid that the handles won't be able to withstand the weight of the boat being hung by them for any length of time, so this morning I rigged up a strap to go across the bottom of the boat. I used a ratchet strap end to ratchet some tension off the handles. Am I being parinoid, or do I have a valid concern about the handles failing? I am planning on rigging up another strap to go around the boat, so I will have two, one on each end. |

Do not hang a kayak from the handles. The handles are not designed for prolonged loads. Best with wide load bearing straps under the belly. Better yet upside down or on cradles. |

I thought the owners manual said to store the PA flat on it's hull? I will have to dig it out and check. I store mine hull down flat on the floor. |

I would think if you ran a couple ropes through pool noodles and put them in the 2 grooves on the hull between the 3 sections of the hull (lengthways) you could hang it that way safely. Should provide similar support to the pvc tubes on my trailer. (see the trailer thread by De-tension) Or you could make a wood frame that the pulleys attach to, and put the pvc on that. |

Here is a writeup and some pictures of my garage setup. http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=21661 I use a platform hoist I bought off Amazon. I have a little extra ceiling height in my garage, but this rig could be done in a garage with a lower ceiling, you just have to get creative about positioning. My setup is still working great and I think it's pretty easy to store my PA and all my boat gear safe and out of the way, but still get it into action quickly. Good luck! TDK |

Sorry to get in late on this. I installed a harker hoist system whcih has a weight capacity of 145#. The straps are positioned at approx 1/3rds of hte length - at front edge of drive well and in front of the rear scupper/cart holes. I can see how storing upside down works in TDKs method and I am space limited myself. |
