Post subject:  PA seat not that comfortable

Hi all,

Long time reader and first time poster. I am from the other side of the world(Australia). :)

Anyone have lower back and sore butt using the PA in a prolong session say 4-6 hours sitting and pedalling? I get a sore butt and and sore lower back sitting too long on the PA. Anyone have any mod that you can share? I was thinking of getting a cushion for the seat and maybe if I am keen I can retrofit the entire seat just like this guy.

FHM, welcome to the forum. Here are a couple of simple combos that work for me:

I have owned and paddled four kayaks and the seat on my Hobie Pro Angler has got to be the most comfortable seat of them all. It is close to my Lazyboy recliner in comfort.

I suppose any seat could get uncomfortable is one is in it long enough and doesn't change positions every now and then. Most of my trips are 4-5 hours and I am never tired.

On thing that I like is I installed the seat modification that allows me to slide it forward and backwards about 6 inches. You might look into this modification.

Good luck and hope you resolve your problem.

Yes, my tailbone gets sore after a long day on the water in the PA. I use some cushions as well.

Thanks for the info,

I will give the cushion a go, but the retrofit of the marine seat does look comfy...:)

I use a inflatable cushion on my PA and I alternate it as a back and butt cushion. My aluminum boat has seats like the one you posted a link to and it also gets uncomfortable after a long day on the water.

I was having sciatic nerve issues using the stock seat bottom:
numbness in toes and tingling along the side of my left foot.
I suspect this was mostly due to poor practices on my part;
bad posture and too long on one position.

My solution was A) a mandatory stand-up break every hour
and B) use a "FatBoy" gel-pad cushion from "Huntcomfort"...

The pad is rather pricey, but it's very nice. I've not had an issue
with pinched nerves since adding it to the seat.

Kayaking for 10 years and I have always used "LAVABUNS" . Check it out. These are comfortable for hours and are made very well.
