Dockside storage

Getting closer and closer to picking up my new PA 14. I live on a lake and have a good dock. I can also pull up the PA onto a gravel beach. Pros and cons on storing it in those two places? I suspect it will get near daily use for the 6-7 months I live at my camp.
I will start out with my portable Hummingbird fishfinder, so that will be removed daily, when not out.

I'm sure you are already thinking about how to secure it from theft while its on the dock or beach and how to get it in and out of the water from the dock. I can't help you with that because only you know the environment. The other consideration is what position to store it in. You can also search the forum for the various ways others successfully store their yaks but I can't remember a post specifically dealing with your issue. It's sounds like a great situation and I'm sure you and your family will love it!

Theft?? Well I'm super remote, at the end of about a ten mile private road, through a gate, past the cliff that says "The Middle of Nowhere".
Not saying that theft will never happen in a situation like that, but I am not aware of a single theft of anything from the 18 camps there in over thirty years. No one locks anything at all , ever.

The water is tea coloured due to tannins (walleye love this) . We are on a flooded river system. So I imagine the hull will become discoloured. I could rig up some sort of canopy to provide some shade over the boat I think.

I think I'd store it upside down on a couple of padded cross braces just ahead and behind the grab rails. I'd use a tarp or some 303 Aerospace UV protectant on it, for sure.

Aside from fading the intense yellow colour down a bit (might be a good thing, no?), is there any deterioration with UV?

You would think that because I spend my winters in Texas, I would already have that sign up. But I don't.

I went through a few rough years where everyone and anyone in my family and many friends died. I learned that material things are not that important. If you have them, enjoy them. Some people tuck away and store what they consider their "good stuff" and then never get around to using it.

I live on the lake and if I can't see that yellow PA from where I am, then I'm in the outhouse.

Allow me to wax philosophic a bit.

My #1 Life Lesson was learned in the not-so-friendly skies of Cambodia in '71. I learned that there is no such thing as a real problem. There are only situations.

Now, a situation can end in only two ways: it can kill you - or not. If it kills you, your problems are over. If it doesn't, it wasn't really a problem.



I was joshing about the sign, of course. But if you ever come out of the outhouse and notice that the yellow boat is gone, just remember: It isn't really a problem.
