Had a sucessful install of the new transducer set up on the 12.The unit from the hummingbird 997si fits nicely, slight mod to make it work ,very clean. Tight Lines. |

I always thought that the side imaging transducer wouldn't function properly in the PA12's transducer mount? Is this wrong? Going to pull the trigger on a fish finder in the next couple of months..if SI really is workable in the PA12 transducer mount - I might go with an SI model. |

Side scan will work if put in anywhere in the water if you use a straight edge from the transducer going sideways and it hits the bottom of the kayak it's not going to work effectively at that angle on that plane. You might get 85% coverage to the side which only matters over a longer side scan distance . Hard to explain without a diagram |

I think I get what you're trying to say. Basically that any part of the cone that is blocked by the hull won't be returning any useful information. Hell it would probably do nothing besides add noise (sonar bounces off the hull and blasts the transducer head). If I had to guesstimate you'd probably end up having like a 100 degree cone? Roughly side coverage of 2.4x your depth. I think a fully functioning side imaging unit gives you full 180 degree coverage which means your side coverage is limited by other factors (like sonar derogation and noise). It'd be cool as heck if Hobie created a transducer plate that was spring loaded. Pops the transducer down an additional 1-2 inches but would return to the closed position if you scrape bottom. Use a twist and stow type system to allow the operator to retract the sonar if need be. |

I know the transducer would hit more things but ,why not mount the transducer to the outside of the plate ? "on the plate its self" |

Has anyone got any pictures of their transducer set up in their PA12's The Hummingbird kit that gets advertised 84505901 ADAPTER KIT, HUMMINGBIRD FF I can find no pictures to. Even if you have a picture of this kit it would be appreciated. Its listed in the spring catalogue but has no picture. |
