Edge by Expedite Truck Bed Retainer Review on you tube. I have used one of these for about 3 years. Easy to use and store. I snug the bow of any yak to the front of the pickup bed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcniRHEH_Uc Purchasing ...

I haul both of my Freedom Hawks in my little pickup bed Ridgeline with this great bed extender/net.

Recently, I had to replace some redwood on our deck, this Edge extender handled a dozen 14' 2X4's with no problem. The guy in the lumber yard put the wood in the back of my Ridgeline. Then, we connected the Edge to the back two hold downs, ran the net back over the ends of the wood and pulled the straps tight. We live on basically the only hill in Napa, and the wood and we got home easily and safely.

I have an 8' standup paddle and an adjustable AT paddle for my Freedom Hawks. Now, I never take them apart, after I load the yak and its stabilizers in the truck bed, I slide one paddle one each side and put the net on and pull the rear of the paddles into the snugged net.

I have been stopped 3 times by local LEO's, a city cop, sheriff deputy and a CHP. They wanted to see the Edge close up and the cost and where to order it. I carry that info for anyone who is interested.

Anyone with ideas for a cheap way of adding an extender? I currently do not have a hitch installed on my truck. I would only use the hitch for the extender and the extenders only have a 350 weight capicity. So it seems like I would be overdoing it to add 5,000 pound class III hitch since I will only be using it for the kayak. It would be great if I could figure out a way to attach a receiver tube to my truck without a hitch and then just attach the extender to the tube.

I have never had any experiences with trailer things so any ideas others have would be great. My truck seems to not want to die (it is a toyota) and I was planning on adding a hitch when I buy a new truck, but not to the one with 200k miles.

Thanks for any help.

Is a truck bed extender considered a trailer? Can I transport my boat with a truck bed extender & park in an area that's reserved for "Vehicles with attached boat trailers" in San Diego, CA?

At Miramar lake it's no problem. For the bays it's best to call ahead to find out the policy. Since you are using a bed extender, you really need 2 parking spaces anyway so you don't stick out beyond the parking stall. I think the SDPD monitors the bay parking lots. 8)
