Post subject:  Elite 4 DSI question?

Does anyone have problems with their elite 4 fogging in the cool air 35 - 40 degrees? Mine has been fogging up then clears after a few hours.

It seems to work fine through just wondering if this is normal?

thanks for your help.

I can't tell - the screen captures so much glare it's like looking at a mirror most of the time.

Tom;

I live on the north west coast of Oregon so glare is not an issue here. mostly rain. I have sent in a inquiry to lowrance to see if they had an answer as well.

Mine has glare, rain or shine. Terrible screen glass, in my opinion.

It sounds to me like maybe you're getting some moisture in the unit. Perhaps a bad seal. After it runs a good while there's just enough heat to dry it out. Not sure. Hope Lowrance can offer some help.

I have same problem with the Elite 4 DSI...the fog area slowly reduces as the sun hits or air warms up.

I have never had any problems with mine fogging, but glare can be an issue when the sun hits it at the right angle.

Fogging will usually occur when you are taking the f/f unit from one extreme temp to another. For example if you are keeping your unit inside your home and then mounting it on the kayak when you go fishing, you will most often get a foggy screen.

I usually mount mine on the kayak a couple hours before actual launching so that it will adjust to the outside temp.

Fogging = moisture inside the unit....the seal has a leak somewhere.
I wonder if the unit can be purged using dry nitrogen when being sealed up :?:

This would be a great time to make the switch to a Humminbird! I would recommend the 597 si di unit it's got it all and them some. I like being able to see 2D and DI at the same time! And the split screen is horizontal for the most history. Take yours back to the retailer before you have to deal with Lowrance direct and get on the postal marry go round. If you go with a humminbird you will need to pick up the optional part that your transducer connects to before it can go on the bottom of your PA12 (your Hobie retailer will know what part you will need). I know the HB 597 is a little more money but you will want for nothing with this unit.

Good luck, MM

MM;

I just purchased the unit 1.5 months ago brand new. I have registered it as well so hopefully Lowrance will stand behind it. I will look at the HB597 for cost and features anything about it you can share?

Thanks.
