Thank you, Matt. That's just what I needed.

So any newly ordered 2013 PA14 should have fins with the patent number, correct?

Matt,
You wrote a month ago that new MD fins may not be available until later this year....but with no guarantee. Is this still the case?

I am ready to buy spare fins for the season coming up. My Hobie dealer has one spare fin of the older version in stock. I would rather invest in the newer tougher version since my fins take quite a beating on the oyster beds/sand bars. (Fins now covered with Gorilla tape & Goop).

How is one to be certain to get the latest technology? Is it a waiting game or can my dealer obtain a p/n from you folks to order the latest?

Another fin question. When my fins are active there is a knock which I have determined to be the left fin hitting the bottom of the boat. However the right fin in the up position is about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the boat and does not knock. Can I adjust the left fin so it does not hit the bottom of the boat. I see there are 2 chains on the fin and it looks like one or both should be loosened (?) to lower the stop height travel of the fin. Is that the fix or is there something else like placing a pad behind the one pedal shaft so it shortens the pedal stroke by hitting the back of the Mirage unit hole thus shortening the fin travel length. Or am I off base and there is another way to solve this problem?

I might have seen an answer to a post similar to this but did not understand the fix.

Not sure what statement you are referring to, but earlier in this thread... the assumption was that new fins arrived last year and have been in 2013 boat production which started last summer.

You would think so. I am not 100% certain of when the latest ones hit the production line, but we start building new model year product in June / July. roadrunner wouldn't have seen the change till the fins started hitting the store shelves and had a chance to test them out, so... by extrapolation ... I "think" all 2013's have the latest ones. Don't hold me to it though. :)

Dealers buy stock of new product as early as late August... If the boat is in their stock, higher chance it was earlier production. If they had to get it from us here after you ordered... higher probability that the new fins are on it.

All said... even the iteration before was a lot tougher than the early vintage fins.

Matt...this is the quote I was referring to.

This quote was from last year, so by then (June / July 2012) ... they were coming out on production boats I believed. I could not say for certain they are on a dealer's shelf because a dealer might have old stock (even now).

So, look for the patent number on the fin. That is the indication of the latest version.

You can adjust the fin position with the cable / chains, but generally users just limit the pedal stroke. You can move the pedals a little further away from you so you are not inclined to "hit the stops" with each stroke.

OK, maybe I am confused, but I said ... last month ... that the fins were likely in 2013 boat production which started in July / August 2012.

By the time roadrunner got some and did testing it was November 2012.

Checking our stock here... we have the latest fins on the shelf, so if a dealer orders ST Turbo fins... they would get the latest ones.

If you find some at a shop, simply look for the patent number (added on this iteration of Turbos) as described by roadrunner.

The number is hard to see through packaging.

Thanks Matt. This answers my question. My dealer has old ones (no patent number). I will ask him to place an order with you folks for the latest tech.
