New to the forum and I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a PA 12. What accessories (wheels, etc...) would you recommend. The Hobie accessories are so expensive. What would accessories are must have and which are nice, and which ones don;t make financial sense.

Plug in cart/wheels are manditory. There are cheaper "general" carts, but the Hobie works really well - worth the $$$ IMHO. Work it into the deal and get a discount on it.

Other options depend on how and where you intend to use it. Paddle leash is a good investment. Anchor and anchor trolley system (seach for home-made removable anchor trolley on forum or YouTube). I have an H-bar and like it a lot for fly fishing. Way easier to fly cast while standing. I also added a stripping basket I bought from a pontoon boat Co. - only need for fly fishing. Seat back storage bag. Rod holders. Fish finder - I use a Humminbird Fishin Buddy 120.

Search the forum. There are lost of good and cheap ghome-made accessory ideas/projects.

Tight lines,

Bob

Numero Uno: a good PFD. I got a manually actuated inflatable from eBay.

Fish Finder. I went with Humminbird for my 14, but your 12 is ready for Lowrance.

Battery for same.

Ice chest. I got a foldable soft-side model. Rod holder(s) from Scotty or Ram.

Anchor trolley system.

Leashes for anything you don't want to sink to the bottom.

You'll think of more, but those will get you afloat and fishing safely.

As I was told when I asked that question... Safety kit, safety flag, whistle, air horn. :)

Keep in mind, an aftermarket anchor trolly will not fit a 2013 PA. The inserts are a little different, so a typical Harken pulley wont fit.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not new to Kayak fishing, just to Hobie. I already own a fully rigged Manta Ray 14 (now for sale), Coosa, and Ultimate 12. I have most everything mentioned here. My question was Hobie PA 12 specific accessories.

I ended up buying a Dune PA 12 yesterday and I did get the new Heavy Duty Wheel cart, but no other Hobie accessories.

What is the consensus on the H-Bar. Is it worth getting?

I also already own a Humminbird 385ci. Will I need an adaptor for the Transducer or will it mount OK?

I use the home-made trolley found on YouTube with bungee loops, clips, rope, and a metal ring. It works great with no drilling.

Good comments on the PFD and safey gear. Totally forgot that, but yes absolutely necessary. Also see forum posts for rope re-entry ladder. Another good idea

Hobie can get you an adapter for your Hummingbird to make it fit the current lowrance ready system. Contact your dealer. I have the H-bar and have not used it enough to give you an intelligent opinion. If you look through this forum, you will see pro's and cons. I haven't had my PA12 all that long and am still getting use to things but really love it. :D

I'm a big minimalist, so I don't add much to my yaks... but I am a big fan of the new Tackle Webs storage systems for kayaks.. you can check them out at www.tacklewebs.com or on facebook... making some cool accesorires for the pro anglers.

While you have to on-board rod storage, I fully suggest that you get a set of the rear flush mount extenders. They are great for trolling and for storing a rod when measuring your fish.
