Very clean!

One question, is there any give to that mount if you should hit an underwater obstruction?

fishingfool,

There is no kickback protection in this design. Just don't hit anything!! :D The way I see it, If you're in water shallow enough that you think you might hit something, the motor shouldn't be down in the first place. To answer your question though: If you should hit something, most of the force applied stays contained within the C channel piece and not sent through the plastic. Obviously something would eventually have to give (my first guess would be one of the actuator pins), but considering the relatively low speeds we're talking about, I think you would just simply come to a stop.

That is great. Best install I have seen yet. That is the crate that I am looking for. Where did you get it?

Thanks for the comments guys!

RLC,

It's a 2 liter soda bottle crate that folds flat. You can google "folding crate" and find one to fit your needs.

Great job well done.
I'd however suggest to change the actuator arm connection to a "hook setup" so that the motor can kickback should you hit the bottom.

Thanks for the comments guys! Gaz, you are correct. This unit does need a kickback function. I mainly fish big lakes with the PA, so I wasn't really considering that as being an issue. Like I said though, this is a prototype and I've already begun to make design improvements. I think I will scrap this one and start over. The new one will have full retraction, kickback, and steering. It will also be easily detachable.
