I'm just about finished building my newer kayak trailer for my 2 PA's and I was fortunate enough to get a Hobie Toy Box for my Kayaks. Eventhough it was built to store sails ....... it is AWESOME for storing anything you want for a day of kayak fishing. I can leave virtually everything I need for a days fishing in it so all I have to do is to hitch up and go. The only problem is there is no way that I can find to lock it. Everything is held together with those wonderful bungee straps.

Can anyone at Hobie tell me if there is something I can buy for a lockable system on the toybox? Does Hobie make such a thing? And if not then why not. It is such a great product to have such an obvious flaw in design if it doesn't. I have tried to find a hasp that would fit but haven't been successful because of the lip. PLEASE tell me you have something ....... I would love to buy it and install it.

No, no locking system is available for Hobie for the Toy Box. Years ago (different designed box) we had a latch kit, but this is actually the first request I have had for that in many years.

That's amazing ......... great storage box with no way to lock it ........ unbelievable ......

I love it ........ it would make the ultimate storage solution for kayaks and trailers if it could be locked ........ otherwise it's useless ......... amazing

I wouldn't say "useless" at all. It keeps gear clean and dry... and secure on a trailer or roof rack. We have sold thousands of these and people keep sails and all kinds of gear in them... We have never locked the one we use.

There are a ton of ways to secure it or add hinges and hasps... all available at places like Home Depot. I'd guess the locking kit didn't sell well is why it went away.

Really ......... no one is concerned about theft with an easily opened storage device? ....... Really? ........... there have been others asking about the same thing different archives ...... also about the back end coming off when launching on other sites ......... locks would take care of that .........

Matt, your solutions don't make sense. Please tell me how you put a Hasp on it when the end piece fits inside of a flange with a 2+ inch overlap and a 1/2" offset on 1 side and a 1/4" on the other side .......... Hasp's won't work on the back opening .......... and how would you go about hingeing something when 1 part fits inside of the other ........... it won't work ...........

Fortunately, I figured out a solution but I couldn't use hasps and hinges on the back end ........... I did use hinges on the front cover and had to custom bend a hasp for the front cover because of the roundness .......

You would be able to sell a ton of these for Kayak Fishermen's trailers if you would engineer it to lock because it is the perfect storage device for everything you need. I can store almost everything I had in the back of the Pickup truck on the trailer now including my rods all locked or secured safely. Eliminates alot of packing everytime I want to go fishing.

I believe that the Toy Box is nothing more than a Thule car top carrier. If a lock is so important, go buy one from Thule which has a lock. They come in all assorted sizes and shapes. Really...... not that difficult of a solution

This works for me:
PA14 on one side, Thule cargo/equipment box on other.

First, the thules are nothing like a toybox ........ and second, I already have the toybox and I didn't realize there is no easy way to lock it .......... guess that's why the guy sold it to me so cheap .........
