Post subject:  New kayak hauler!

I sold my truck before moving to California last month. When I had it I never really thought about a trailer bc it was just too easy and convenient not having to deal with trailer bearings, maintenance, extra parking and turn around room, etc. These days I'm sharing a vehicle with my wife, and her Trailblazer just isn't convenient for transporting my Pro Angler since the back hatch has to be left open to fit it inside. I'm completely opposed to car topping a Pro Angler ao it was time to search for a trailer.

I found this trailer here locally. It started life as a ShoreLander jet ski trailer. The original owner used it to haul a single ski plus all of his family's camping equipment. He built a second level rack on top that is removable as well as a front rack. The trailer is in pristine condition with zero rust even on the leaf springs. I had to remove the front rack due to the length of the PA14 and I still might move the front stantion forward so that I have less hanging off the back end. For now it will work though and it soon may have another PA14 up on the second level!!! If that happens I might shorten the legs up so that loading and unloading is a little easier. We'll see.

Very nice setup.

Don't forget to put an orange flag on the rear of the PA. It hangs over the back of the trailer pretty far. I'm sure that without the flag you'll get to meet your friendly local law enforcement officer...

Nice trailer set up.
Any concern about the PA extending too far behind the trailer could be easily fixed by moving the winch post 18" closer to the coupler and the tongue wheel forward a few inches too.
The bunks could be lengthened by a like amount too....or possibly just moved "up"/repositioned on the supports towards the coupler.

I like that and have a similar trailer. I have question though? Do you know if he made the rack, or is it a kit? And could you give the manufacture of it? I would like to purchase one. Thanks

The original owner built the racks himself. He was a welder by trade so the finish is fantastic!

I had to remove the front tounge mounted rack to be able to slide the PA far enough forward. I hated losing that front rack but I had no choice.

That is an awesome setup, the top rack is fantastic but I share the concern of so much kayak hanging off the rear of the trailer. If it were me, I would move the front post forward as far as you could without the kayak hitting the jack stand.

I might be able to move the boat a couple inches forward but it won't be much. When the trailer was built the tongue was extended and bracing was added on the under side of the main beam. The bracing won't allow my to position the upright much farther forward. I'll see what I can do about it, but in the end I'm not too worried. I have lights, a flag, and if folks can't see the PA on this big white trailer then that's there problem. I guess that's what insurance if for! LOL

Very nice, should be easy to offload and load your PA from that trailer!

It's working great so far. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do to the top rack when I get my second PA. It'll probably be a set of cradles so the rack space will still be open and useable. I may shorten the uprights too for easier loading and unloading.
