| Post subject: | This winter's kayak fishing destination? need some help |
Have a Pro Angler 14 on a trailex trailer. Live in Ohio but this winter will be going south (florida ?) to kayak fish. Any suugestions where to go or stay. Will be there a week and would prefer to fish / launch from whereever we will be staying. Have been to Jensen Beach and fished Indian River Lagioon. Stayed at River Palm Cottages and fish Camp. I would reccomend it to any Kayak fisherman |

You didn't say what part of winter you wanted to go? Come visit us at Amelia Island, FL. Not only great fishing around the island, but also located just north of Jacksonville, FL. which is known for one of the best kayak fishing destinations around. |

Central Fl offers a lot of water to fish, as do the Everglades and Keys, depending on what you want to do. Jan. 2012 I spent a week in Kissimmee and fished a different lake each day. As for places to stay, I actually stayed at a Condo (time share trade) so I can't help much there. We hit East Lake Toho, Cypress, Hatchineha, Marion, and Tenoroc Mines over in the Lakeland area, many small lakes with kayak access. Tenoroc Mines (old phosphate mines) which is a fee-to-fish (daily permit) the many interconnected phosphate pits. You'll see a lot of gators there... Tenoroc was neat, but a GPS is helpful as it's very easy to get disorientated in the maze of small pits connected by narrow canals. East Toho is BIG water but near shore (north) offers shallow, reed filled water, again you fish the channels and can't see above the reeds, so GPS helps. One thing - watch out for the AIR BOATS!! The gators were not an issue, we saw at least one in just about each lake, but they kept there distance. Plenty of lodging, restaurants in the area, traffic too but that's NOT a plus. Myself, I would really like to get down to the keys and fish from my kayak, I think that would be a lot of fun and that may be my next Florida trip... |

Come to South East Florida and fish Pompano and Dania where we get sailfish, amberjack, wahoo, grouper, snapper, kingfish and tuna just to name a few. Last Saturday I had 60 pounds of fish on my PA from 2 of us my buddy didn't bring his fish bag. Large fish are always around to be had. |
