Post subject:  Just got my first Hobie
I just bought my first Hobie, a PA12. I live in Western Colorado and picked up my new boat at Summit Canyon Mountaineering, the staff was great. I can't wait to get it on the water but severe wind and rain is keeping me off the lake for now.

I haven't done too much to it yet. I put a full sized rudder control handle on the side with the little handle and put knobs on both handles. I bought a couple of rod tube extensions. I suppose I'll mount my fishfinder and battery when the weather gets a little better.

I did buy a set of cradles, I plan on mounting them onto a couple of 8 foot long 2x4s the thinking being that I could then strap that to my trailer or the top of my Tahoe and be able to transport the PA safely on either. Is this a good idea or not?

I also plan on building a garage storage crate like I saw by another member of this forum as I was poking around.

Any other mod ideas would be much appreciated.
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi and let you guys know that there is another member of the hobie fan club.

Congrats on the new Pro Angler!! :D :D

I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as the rest of us. Fish it in a few times before you start modifying and mounting items to get a feel for what will work best for you and your type of fishing.

Thanks for the reply SRA.

I went out Saturday morning for about four hours. I loved it. I can't believe how stable this boat is. I have a Wilderness Ride 115 and I bought he elevated seat for it but it was so tippy feeling I just couldn't get used to it. With the Hobie I had the vantage seat in hoth positions and I really didn't notice a difference in stability. I stood with ease. This thing is amazing to fish from. The mirage drive and the rudder system makes it so easy to maneuver the boat where I want it.

One thing I did was to take a chest pack made for fly fishing and put it around the legs of the seat on my left side which works great for tools and putting lures while re-rigging. I ordered two 8" gear tracks from Yak Attack. Can't wait to get it really dialed in.

Welcome to the club. If I was to suggest a nice extra, it would be the tackle webs made for the vantage seat. I have one on each side of the seat and one underneath the seat. Plenty of posts about them on this site. Really a nice way to securely store the tackles boxes that came with the boat. I also like the tub that takes the place of the pivoting tackle management system. Enjoy your boat and again, welcome!! :D

Enjoy it while you can before winter sets in where you live...lol. You probably saw the bases I made for storing the PA in my garage out of 3 inch PVC and using wood boards to make a box frame. My PVC is 84 inches in length. Might not have to be quite that long for the PA12. Build the box first, lay the PVC on the box, then put the PA on the tubes. Get everything lined up and hold the "L" brackets up against each tube and mark the tube and the cross board where the screws for the "L" brackets will be.

Also, sand the end edges of the PVC to make them rounded off so to speak. This will prevent any sharp PVC edges.

Congratulations on the purchase of your Pro Angler :!: Yes, you will enjoy fishing from this fishing platform for sure :!: :!:

Like said above, hold off doing any mounting until after you have fished from it several times. The trac systems will give you additional flexibility in having things mounted where you want them.
