Thanks for sharing your story. It's a great lesson. Just curious if you have your PA insured? A lot of folks don't realize that insurance for a Pro Angler is pretty cheap. When I fish away from my subdivision lake, I always take my Mirage Drive leash so I don't have something similar happen. Looking at your "nickname" and the location you fished, I'll assume you live in northern Florida or southern Georgia. You have Black Creek Outfitters in Jacksonville or Wilderness Way just south of Tallahassee. If memory serves me correctly, there is a dealer in Albany, GA as well. Great fish in the picture! |

I'm originally from Tallahassee, but live north of Atlanta now. I thought I would get the drive from ACK. But since I posted this I called The Outside World, which is where I bought the boat and they are going to give me a good deal. I was really impressed that they are willing to take care of me. |

Man that sucks, such an expensive damn fish.....hopefully the sale of the paddle will take some of the sting out of the loss. I think the first thing I DIY'ed for my first PA12 was a leash for the Mirage Drive (sorry, didn't mean to rub it in ) and later for my 12 y/o son's Revo 11. He did have a close call a couple weeks back- we were at the launch, he was about 25 yards out just screw'in around when I saw him jump forward and grap at something.....the drive; he had pulled it to beach the boat but then decided to paddle around a bit and forgot to reconnect the leash. As he went to clip in the paddle, he caught the drive and almost flipped it out into 6-8' of dark brackish water. Lesson learned....for him! Again, thanks for sharing. |

There are two Mirage Drive units for sale on eBay right now. I also installed a leash on my mirage drive unit before I put it in the water for the first time. I was afraid what of exactly what happened to you. Sorry to hear that you had that accident. |

I keep my leash attached to my drive at all times, even storing the drive in the bag, so I never forget to attach it as soon as it enters the boat. The female end of the leash stays looped through the yak's D-ring. |

Leashes should be standard on all mirage drives. I keep one on all my drives, and connecting to the kayak is always done before every launch. |

I ordered a new turbo drive and LEASE from the store I bought the kayak from about 6 months ago. They ended up giving me a decent discount on both. I will definitely lease it before it hits the water every time..... |
