Anyone remember what a 2011 Pro Angler 14 went for new back in 2011? I found a used one close to me and thinking about pulling the trigger. It does not come with any accessories (outside of the paddle, dolly and mirage which I believe is standard) and he is just over 2K for it.

Also any advice on areas to inspect?

thanks

A 2012 PA14 retailed for $2450 if I remember correctly. The 2011 should have been the same or slightly lower as far as retail. The dolly or cart is extra. If you have the paddle, white bucket for the storage in front of the seat, the large white bucket in the bow, the round storage bucket in the rear, seat and Mirage drive, you've got all the pieces. Not sure if the 2011 model came with the clip on Hobie drink bottle.

If the PA is in great shape, that's probably a good deal considering the price of a new one. Just my thoughts.

A lot depends on where you are located, too. Down here in South Louisiana, we have a super sized fleet of Hobie kayaks, as well as all the other brands. The turnover is much higher than most places, so the going price for a 2011 in good condition is about $1800. Be sure the scuppers were reinforced and there are no cracks. Check some of the older posts here for the location of the cracks, but I believe the worst were right at the base of the rod holder, next to the seat.

Here is a buyer's technique. Bring the amount you are willing to pay to seal the deal, in cash. Put the amount you want to pay in one pocket, and the rest in the other pocket. Take out the first amount and offer it to him and let him see that's the entire amount...and if he believes it's all you have, and he sees cash, he might take it. If not, you can negotiate upwards until you reach his price. Of course, if he insists his price is firm, none of that will usually work, though I would still try it.

If he's looking at a 2011 PA14, I do not believe the 2011 PA14 had the black reinforced tubes added in the forward and rear scuppers. If memory serves me correctly, those were introduced in the 2012 models.

In my 2011 there is no reinforcement. I used some pvc to clad mine.

That is WAY. Too much money for a 2011

I would think $1700 - $1800 if it's in excellent condition, without any electronics. I passed on a leftover 2013 PA-14 at a dealer for $2399 and just purchased a slightly used 2013 PA-14 with several "extras" including a Humminbird 998cSI for $3000. Hobie made an improvement in the Mirage Drive in 2012 that makes it easier to snap in place - the 2011 is a little bit touchy in getting it to snap in. I also have 2012 PA-14 that I bought new for $2599, the 2011 retail price would have been less than that. If the seller is stuck on $2K - keep looking.

I'm pretty sure Steve (SRAces) is correct in that the rear scuppers were NOT reinforced on that model. A number of boats developed leaks at the seam inside the scuppers. Most Hobie dealers will reinforce them for you with an aftermarket kit at no charge if they haven't been done already. As I said earlier, be sure they are reinforced. If I were you, I would keep looking, or make the guy a serious offer of $1700-$1800. If he takes it, good...if not, keep looking. More than that is too much for that model.
