Post subject:  PA 12 Side Storage Solution and Suggestions

My son is getting a new PA12 next week. He's got a very small garage space which will require him to store his new PA12 on its side up against the wall next to the car. He knows it is not recommended to store the PA on its side just sitting on the concrete. So he is thinking of getting several (maybe 5-7) large high density polyethylene foam blocks and cutting them to match the contour of the side of the hull and evenly spacing them over the length of the PA. Then he would rest the side of the yak on the blocks and lean it slightly against the wall. The thought is that with multiple points of contact with the shaped foam, the PA would be OK. I'd be interested in any thoughts you members have about this idea. Also, any other suggestions about how to solve his "side-storage" problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

He can store it against the wall standing up on the stern (rear handle). Hobie stands them up that way at the factory. If I remember correctly, that is an acceptable method that was previously mentioned.

I wonder… would a hammock distribute the weight easily and evenly and be okay?

That's interesting that you mention hammock. We were thinking the same thing. Maybe getting one of those portable hammocks that you use for camping trips and rigging that on 2 standards attached to a long 2X12. Anyone else have any experience with that???

I would never store my PA on its side, but I little knowledge of how it works for anglers who store a PA this way. I've been thinking about your dilemma for a few days and only thing that comes to mind is forcing out two more feet from the garage wall and lay the PA, top side up, on two 4 foot lengths of 2 inch or 3 inch PVC pipe. I wish you luck.

Everyone is over thinking this situation  The solution is very simple....

Just do like I do. Let the new car sit outside and put the kayak and trailer in the garage :!: :!: :!: Get your darn priorities right
