Post subject:  Question about a Battery.................

I'm going to install a fishfinder in my 2014 PA14. I've seen posts about converting the rear tackle tray that sits in the 8" hatch to carry a battery. To that end, what size battery would I need to buy to fit in the modified tackle tray>

Thanks for the replies.

A 7ah would fit. A 8ah maybe the same size. Once you get to the 9ah and greater, the size of the battery also gets larger.

I tried this a year ago with the PA and found the bucket didn't hold it's shape well and had the bucket fall into the hull once. Hobie now has a holder designed to fit the hatch and it works very well. No modifying neeeded.

Thanks guys. That looks like the way to go. The on-line catalog doesn't show a price for it. Can anyone give me a ball park figure?

The Hobie battery has some good features. It comes with the waterproof connectors and also the waterproof connectors. I have just switched my entire electrical system over with these batteries. The battery charger they offer also uses the same connectors. You don't need to remove your battery to charge. Just unplug the clips and insert the battery charger.

Dave,
I just used the Hobie Battery Mount for a Power-Pole Micro Anchor install, worked awesome...and the 12v9ah battery fit perfect too.

I use a 12v7ah battery & charger combo from Humminbird to power a Lowrance Mark-4 FF/GPS. Paid around $40 from Amazon.

Found the 12v9ah for $23 w/free S&H on Amazon also.

Lt. did you say that the 9ah12v battery fit into the battery holder for the Hobie? Or was the 7ah battery a better fit?

Dave, I misspoke about battery size. I had a 10.5 ah and that one didn't fit. I assumed and not looking at it that it was a 9.

Follow what Dog said, if he has a 9 and it fits as he says.

Dave,
as far as I know, all the battery cases up to (& including :D ) 9ah, are the same dimensions.
I stow the 12v7ah in a waterproof box that is stored inside the hull, just aft of the "tackle management" hatch, but the Hobie Battery holder is (IMO) the way to go.

I use the Stealth Cam battery kit that's made for hunting/deer feeder cameras. About $39 complete from Academy. Comes in a dry box, with the charger and 8aH battery. Just soldered a 2-pin trailer connector on the power cord and matching end on my FF power cord. I can fish with it 4-5 hours/day for several days between recharges.
