Hello Matt, the cradles for my TI both cracked this week when the TI was suddenly jolted. Replacements are hugely expensive here in the UK and so I wanted to try to do some plastic welding as a suitable repair. I tried an initial stitch on part of the crack and this bonded well. However, I do need some filler plastic to complete the job. Could you please confirm that the cradles are made from PVC. If not, what type of plastic are the cradles made from?

Thanks

Roger

These are ABS.

Thanks Matt, I shall set to work on the repair as soon as I have located some ABS to weld with.

I'm going to put a bow roller directly behind my rear cradle so that it'll be at the same height as the cradle (I'll put the Kayak on my fixture and then mount the roller so it will just touch the Kayak. THAT should keep me from cracking the rear cradle as the roller will take all the off-angle force. Plus, it'll help me when I slide that PA14 into the fixture that attaches to the bedrails of my truck. It'll keep the kayak above the toolbox in my truck and help prevent so much of it from hanging out the back of my truck.
