I have a 2016 PA14. I'm trying to decide if I should get the HDS7 Gen3, the Elite7 Ti or the Elite5. Also which transducer. I think I am going to get an external ram mount style transducer because I am constantly in the sand/oyster beds and don't want to destroy it on the bottom.
Im kinda leaning towards the Elite7Ti with totalscan transducer.
Thanks for the insights. Pictures of your mounting would also be appreciated

I would go with the elite ti model over the hds 7 gen 3. I have the hds and my cousin has the elite. Virtually no difference in functionality as a standalone unit . The elite is considerably cheaper. Your paying extra for stuff you will never use on the hs unit. Radar, ethernet, etc.

And if you go with the regular transducer it will fit completely in the yak and then you wont have to worry about scraping. I had a ram mount that hung over and it buffeted too much at any speed.

I have the total scan transducer and have had no issue with it scraping. I built two pvc bunk systems for it to keep it raised. One for storage at the house and one that sits in my pickup. You will be fine with eiher the berley pro or the hobie pro mont as long as your not planning on draging you kayak over shallow areas.

I run the Elite Ti with TotalScan and love it. Since you are near oyster beds get the BerleyPro mount it will take a lot of abuse and protect the transducer, I use them on both mu PA's.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely going with the Berley Pro. Local Hobie shop doesn't sell them but does recommend them.

MtMouse, I saw your rigging vids and was curious as to how mounting your regular transducer in marine goo, inside the hull worked out. Did the location work out so no interference from the drive?

Could you post a photo of the location?

I have a 2018 PA 14 inbound and want to rig it with the Carbon 9 and both transducers.

Thanks

It worked out great...no issues at all. I will try and get a good picture of it, but it's mounted behind the mast post.

I have Mtmouse's set up and love it. Started with 5ti and after 2 trips decided I need bigger, BassPro accepted return and swapped with 7ti.

BerkleyPro is great, no worries it won't protect transducer.
