I agree. I had an Elite 7 TI. Very slow and poor CHIRP (only 5 Khz ).
I've just get an HELIX 7 SI. Faster processor and true CHIRP ( 75-155/130-250 transducer just manage 75-95 / 175-225 )

I am looking for advice on the best fish finder with GPS to use with my Hobie(2017) PA 12 ft. I do a lot of shallow salt water fishing and a lot of mangrove areas that you can easily get turned around in, So looking for a good shallow water one with gps that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. |

The Lowrance Elite Ti with TotalScan is a great unit. You get a touch screen with sonar, downscan and sidescan and GPS. I find sidescan a must have in shallow water. Price will depend on screen size. My rule of thumb is; always buy the largest screen you are comfortable paying for. You can get them bundled with a Navionics+ card, which will save you some $. |

If you do a lot of inshore saltwater fishing, a basic color fish finder with GPS is really all you need. I fish every weekend in that environment. In water 5 feet or less (most of the time 3 feet or less in the Gulf), you just use the sonar side to determine the bottom structure (grass, mud or rocks) if the water clarity is not good. It will help you find channels and let you know when the bottom is coming up. But for finding fish in that environment it's not a factor. The GPS helps you find your way back to your launch point and helps you mark locations for future trips. I prefer Humminbird over Lowrance. A Helix 5 with GPS will run you $300 online with Cabelas. All you need is the Hobie Humminbird adapter kit which is inexpensive. For the fishing you described, that unit should be ideal for you at a reasonable cost. Good luck and tight lines! |

I have the Lowrance Hook 5 with Chirp & Downscan on my PA 17Tand it rocks. It's not slow and works great in shallow water. |

In fact, it seems to be about the same speed...but as you say your 50 hp car that needs a blower isn’t slow...it’s all relative

How are the images on the non mega vs the total scan from the Lowrance. Just got my PA yesterday and have been back and forth for weeks on which depth finder |
