My question too. YouTube videos only highlight the transducer guard, which appears to be a nice feature. It will be interesting to see if any other kayak manufacturers besides Pelican, including those currently using bicycle style peddles, transition to the Mirage style. Among the bicycle style, Jackson’s design appears easiest to clear weeds from the prop. I’m in the market now but want to get the full scoop before deciding. Details matter!....I was all set to get a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer until, by accident, I just found out they can’t be backed into the water!! Called the company and that’s the case. Huh??? Now it’s either Malone or Trailex so I have to decide which is best, and I assume those can be backed into the water. I only intend to launch at boat launches and just float the kayak off. 70 years old....double hernia operation....I’m going to let the water do the lifting :D

OK, here’s the scoop. I called Hobie in Oceanside, CA and talked to a kayak guy. The only thing new on the 2019 PA’s is the Guardian transducer cover. There is nothing new on the Outbacks. And, for me personally because I need this capability, their Trailex trailer can be backed into the water.

We cannot report anything to customer so when you call here - we will only say what's released. so keep this in mind, just because you speak to someone at Hobie, they can't really give you info.... so you can't know what is coming until it's announced to everyone at the same time - Sept 1 is release for 2019 info.

Just out of curiosity, why don’t kayak companies try to get their new year models and changes ready by iCAST? Everybody is watching the YouTube videos and seeing model demonstrations and new product hype. Since that’s the big industry trade show, why have your new stuff come out 2 months later? I’m sure Hobie must have a good reason for it so please explain.

Would you buy a 2018 car knowing something new was coming out on the 2019 model in two months?

Paddle Retailer show is at the end of August

Mt.mouse, I wasn’t aware of the Paddler Retail Show. I thought ICAST was the big reveal but apparently not. If that’s the case, why didn’t the guy at Hobie tell me that instead of saying flat out that there were no changes to the 2019 PA other than the Guardian.....which I suppose could be the case. I’m in no immediate rush but finding out a few things now could cause one to perhaps take advantage of a sale, a good used boat, or possibly even choose a different brand. Thanks for alerting me to PRS.

Maybe a dumb question but can you add the Guardian to a 2018 PA or is the hole diameter bigger in the hull?

No - it is not possible.
