Post subject:  2018 used PA 14-2002 trailer-8" wide tires - Safe at 70MPH?

This weekend I purchase a 5 month old 2018 PA 14 on a 2002 Hibbard 1,000 GVW trailer.
The trailer appears to be in good shape BUT it is equipped with Load Star 215/60-8 tires that
appear to be fairly old.

In searching for replacements I found that none of the 8" wide tires for sale are radial, only bias,
AND all have restrictions to not go over 65MPH.

I will be pulling the rig behind my Sprinter conversion RV on LONG trips around the country doing
photography from the water of coastlines.

I run the Sprinter at 68 to 72MPH and some days drive for 10 hours with only short breaks.

Now, the trailer has a 1,000 axel from what I can figure out, 4 lugs on the rims.

Anyone running long distances towing their rig?

Considering replacing the hubs and going to a 12" or 13" wheel. Will not be cheap, but thinking the 8" wide tires
will be nothing but a headache over time if I stick with what I have on it. Also finding that only radials are approved
for over 65MPH.

Thus,
1. Seems essential to replace the tires.
2. What brand tire and size is considered among the best?
3. Brand specific suggestions for hubs and best source? How to define what hub will fit my existing axel (manufacturer is out of business).
4. Will also have to replace the fenders.
Suggestions welcome and ask that they be based on real world experience.

Thanks,
Jack

I have the Trailex S.U.T double trailer for hauling 2 Pro Anglers. Trailer came with 480 / 8 tires that have gave me no trouble running highways at 70 mph. I have however changed out to 12 inch tires now that Trailex sells them, was not a option last year. I did have to replace the fenders to gain the needed clearance for the new tire size.

I highly recommend checking your wheel bearings every year. I personally pull the wheel bearings out inspect and repack every year. I also run Bearing Buddies to keep water out of the hub.

New axles/hubs from Northern tool aren’t too expensive. Probably can do the whole swap axles/wheels/ hubs for 500 ish.

I have been very happy with etrailer.com for parts and compatibility questions. All my inquiries have been answered very specifically within 24 hrs, even if submitted on a weekend.
