For light duty sealing I like silicone calk (no pressure or tension on the point of contact). Easy to use and easy to remove if necessary.

I am making my 1st Mod on my 2016 PA 14. I have placed a ‘3-way hull plug’ into the anterior transom area on the Yak, to run a transom mounted Humminbird transducer. I need to use a little sealant around the plug, as it isn’t a truly flush fit. This is of course above the waterline, top of kayak. Do most people use the brand, ‘Marine Goop’ for this? Doesn’t say that it sticks to plastic. I have some JB Weld available as well. Thanks! |

60 views, and nobody has used a sealant on their Hobie? OK, I guess I’ll take the plunge with the JB Weld I have. |

Thanks Roadrunner, I hadn’t heard from anyone so I just picked a tube of marine grade-Goop. I was installing a transom H-rail mounted Humminbird transducer, and I wanted to seal the edges of the Hobie Thru Hull plug. Goop worked just fine. |

Looking for a good siliconized sealant AND adhesive I would recommend Lexel (available at Lowes). It's super sticky/tacky and when you form a bead, don't touch it, just let it be. It will take 1 hour to skin over and 48 hours until service is available and 7 days to fully cure. Look at 51 seconds into this video (guys installing a DIY H-Bar on his Hobie Outback using Lexel): |
