Interested in installing an electric motor to PA14 - considering Jarvis Marine Watersnake Electric motor SKW54/26 transom - short shaft 54lb - any views or experience would be appreciated - also would like opinion of appropriate battery for this setup and adding solar for recharging on the water

regards

I would ditch the solar panel charging idea, unless you want to haul around a solar panel the same size of your yak.

I went a slightly different route.

I have a 2018 PA14 and like the fact I can easily put the motor in the Hobie drive hole. If I run out of juice, just swap the motor for the mirage drive and pedal back.

I have two agm batteries with a switch so I can cut over to the spare without unhooking any cables.

So far I have had no problems.

You certainly don't need a 54lb thrust motor on the PA - it won't push you any faster than a 30lb model but will eat battery life much more quickly.

Torqeedo ......... definitely Torqeedo......... the new battery least you run and run and run .......... they are also on the move to even improve on what they have and to encourage others to build and market accessories. The latest emphasis has been on new mounts and longer lasting batteries. Several third party mounts and motor guards are on the market and there are loud rumors that they are developing a more powerful engine and a third party device that will offer Terrova type features like spot lock etc. these are in addition to the many many benefits that Torqeedo owners have enjoyed for years and have been discussed here many times.

Not sure about other states but in Florida or Georgia if you have any kind of motor propelling your yak, you need to register the boat with the sticker and numbers.

Maybe not be so where you live but worth checking.
