What is the latest on the issue with the needle bearings falling out of the 360 drive. I heard the well known rattle yesterday, and turned the drive over to see a needle bearing fall to the floor. Does Hobie have a fix for this yet?

Get a warranty claim in for a replacement drive. Has to do with missing bearings that allowed the flange to get off center and allow bearings to come out. This has been corrected by enlarging the flange and quality control measures during assembly.

Matt, I have just received my 2020 PA 12 360 drive. It has not been used, yet. I noticed when I picked up the drive & shake it hard, I can hear what sounds like bearings rattling. Is this normal? Or does it need some lubrication or complete replacement? The hull date stamp is Jan 2020.

Thanks for reaching out to me, Matt! Now that is 1st class service! I will get in touch with my dealer to file a claim.

Awe crap, I literally just bought a brand new 2020 a couple weeks ago from a dealer 2 hrs away. I didn’t realize it was mfg Oct 24th 2019, not that it should matter.

Mine has that bearing noise as well. I thought it was normal. Are you saying this is a potential issue? I don’t want to be stuck offshore with a paddle if you know what I mean.

Also, I just want to make sure this warranty is 3 years from the date of consumer purchase, because the only thing I received is an MSO when the dealer purchased it from Hobie, and when I registered it online it didn’t ask for a date of purchase.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Magrf33, I ended up speaking with Jaques Bernier (Hobie 360 drive / design engineer) who informed me the sound is 'normal' and we need not worry.
