Hello - I had a trailer made with PVC bunks for a PA 14. I haven't bought the kayak yet, but I thought if I had the trailer, the dealer could set the new kayak on the trailer and I'd be good to go. The PVC pipe is held in place by galvanized metal that has been welded to the frame of the trailer and screwed to the PVC. I measured the distance on center between the pipes, and it is exactly 10", which from everything I've read, seems too narrow. The only way to move the PVC will be to have the welded pieces cut off and either re-weld them or attach a strut channel to the trailer so the PVC can be adjusted once I have the PA 14. Is 10" too narrow, and which solution would be recommended if the pipe needs to be farther apart? Thanks! |

10" would be okay for the front but the back is closer to 12 3/8". Your idea of attaching a strut channel is really the best so the exact spacing can be obtained/adjusted on the trailer....otherwise, after you receive the PA-14, invert the hull on the ground and lay in your PVC pipes into the hulls channel for the precise spacing measurement. |

I just finished my new trailer build for my new PA 14. I was told the dealer demo rack for the shop was 11". But I ended up with 11.5" for centered contact witth the PVC. Oh, and I used 2" sch 40 electrical conduit. And that was 11.5" center PVC to center. |
