My nephew is picking up his H18 next weekend and he will need some time on flat water before we sail at the coast this summer. Would love to get together with other area sailors at the lake.
Vista Pointe is my preferred launch site and camping is available there as well. You can also camp on any of the many islands in the lake. There is alot of open water in that section and the wind is typically better as well. They will also allow overnight mast up storage if camping, I have done it without camping but not sure thats really allowed.
In addition, I am in communication with Kyle Harrison. Kyle is the guy that put on the Hatteras regatta for many years. I hope to convince him to help create a race for Jordan. There needs to be at least one race in the triangle/piedmont area.
Lets start the dialogue here and see what we can plan out this spring

Sounds Great! I'll do my best to make it. I'd be glad to help if I can.

Ncbum, sounds good. Let me ask what is 'spring' here. This will be our first full sailing season. Need any special gear wetsuit etc?

On flat water like a lake a spray suit is all anyone would need. If you capsize thats another story. Mid-march it should be warm enough to sail comfortably without much gear. As warm as it has been so far maybe earlier. I will keep you informed as plans are made.

Driving from Knoxville to Lake Jordan for a weekend event is within reason for me. Keep us posted.

Water temps: http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/bejrept.txt

I think the old rule of thumb to avoid hypothermia is water temp plus air temp should be 120 total or up. Like: 65 degrees water + 55 degrees air = 120 degrees. But for scrawny me... even water temp of 70 and air temp of 65 without sun, it's still wetsuit time.

Nephews boat is in Raleigh finally but my boat is still at the coast. May bring it back this weekend or next. The water is just now getting warmer on Jordan and the wind has been good recently. Maybe in early June we can make a plan for Jordan.

I am so down with that - lets get as many as we can sailing, perhaps we should all enter one of the CSC regattas?

Sounds like a great plan. For what it's worth, I think it would be great to organize a Hobie fleet sailing within the Carolina Sailing Club. If you are interested let me know.
