Found this the other day. How good would this be on a Hobie!

Have a look at some of the example interactive videos.

You could almost buy another AI for the price of 6 GoPros!

Did you use the mouse and drag on the video as it was playing? Interactive full 360 deg and up and down in real time...
Can't get that without all the cameras.

Great stuff. They are staying 1 step ahead of Sony, although I think when I update the Panasonic ( due most likely to water ingress ) I think I'll go for this http://www.afr.com/p/technology/digital ... i1a16W5voN mainly because it comes with 2 batterys that are interchangeable with my other Sony.

Yes fantastic.

I use software for creating 3d panoramas from stills which is great
some here http://www.360cities.net/

I can see that moving it into video is also a good move but still not sure how useful it is for water based craft. but hey another toy for the armory if funds allow

Just my personal opinion, but like most 3d, I find these 3D systems impractical, expensive and somewhat stomach turning. No thanks.

Given that we sail on a (sorta) horizontal surface, a 360 degree >horizontal< panoramic video using 2 or 3 170 degree lenses would provide 99% of the benefits for under half the cost.

True. Even better to just have:

1. A wide angle rear view,
2. Closer (Ama) side view of the sailor. (Optional)
3. Headcam POV shot. (Optional)

We could spend close to the cost of the boat glorifying ourselves with half a dozen cameras, but 2 wide angle cams can really tell the whole story without gimmicks. Even 1 camera, on a stick or Railblaza boom give you lots of angles and options.

The overhead mastboom view is really cool too, but tricky to do right.

One thing I know for sure, the more cameras you have, the more work you create for yourself. At some point, it kills your enthusiasm.

Want to see more in your footage? My advice would be to get a wider lens.
