I’ve taken on a project and am refreshing a 1991 SX back to newer condition and I’m wondering if anyone has ever replicated the 72” long Hobie Cat decal and the 18SX decal. I would think that Hobie contracted out to a vinyl sign company and had them mass produce these decals over the years that they were still building them. It looks like my only option is to have a sign company try to replicate the font and size and make two decals that will hopefully cover the discolored hulls where the original ones have been glued to for 30 years…My OCD side has kicked in and now I’m determined to replace the tattered decals instead of just leaving them alone…….
So far none of the usual H18 online places have been able to find anything……

Thanks in advance.

Per Matt Miller at Hobie, no decals exist anymore so the next option is a sign company that can figure out the font and replicate the lettering......

Probably time to give this a rest....

my first post here.
It should easy enough to recreate the sticker if you have a good picture of a boat that has the sticker applied. I make vinyl stickers for my own use and there are tracing modules in good software that would make a pretty good vector trace of the bitmap. There would probably be some manual fixing of some of the corners, but not really that much work.

Where do you get the sheet to make vinyl stickers (online store?) and how much do they cost + in how much do you sell them

The vinyl material comes on a roll from the supply company. I have used Gregory and Sign Warehouse in the past when i used to use up a lot of material. Now i use amazon because of the free shipping and i mostly do small jobs now.
I use a plotter/cutting machine to cut out the design. After that the sticker is weeded and the application tape is stuck on with no bubbles. The application tape holds the sticker together after you peel the paper backing off the sticker. A long sticker on the side of a boat would take some knowledge of application techniques to get it straight without bubbles.
The picture of the original sticker has to be pretty clear with decent resolution and at least a few inches long. A picture of the design can be vectorized and then resized to 18' or whatever without loss of detail.
if you take the vector file to a sign shop or a guy with a cutter, they can supply the vinyl and do the cutting/weeding/application tape. Then you apply it, or get them to apply it. It is possible to ruin the sticker during application, so you better be sure you know what you are doing if you take on that step.
If you have the photo and need to get the vector file, i can probably help you with that because it can be done by email.
