Post subject:  Will it Float
I'm finishing my mast tang removel/ instalation, My oldest son Said it will fit in the Pool will it float :?: I don't know what do you guys and gals think :idea: Yea or nea I told him on Saturday we will try and sink it :D It will float is my call :P
Pool temp was 62 degrees today were expecting a cold snap of 80 F bye Thursday Spring has sprung in CENCAL Flowers are a blooming lets go sailing

Float.

Until it fills with water. :twisted:

Look for bubbles - seal up the holes.

We did that last year with a 16 mast. Make sure you have LOTS of silicone and a good rivit gun with Stainless steel rivits. I ended up drilling off the mast base and filling it with silicone and re-riviting it and a few other things on the mast. Seems to hold water well enought now.
Good luck. I hope you get really sunburned in the 80f temps. Its a balmy 22 here. The good news is that the wind is blowing about 30!! Brings the windchill down to about intolorable.
Soon enough, it will be nice. 8)

When you install the tang be sure to put the rivet shrouds on if you can because that'll reduce the ability of water to go through the rivet. But you can go ahead and smear silicone in them as well. Lots of silicone on the mast is good. :)

Yep got it covered sleves shrouds the S/S dohicky shot of 3-m 5200 pushed the sleves in used a 20 dollar rivet puller the kind they use in automotive repair with two handles. Pulled slow to make sure I'll call it the bubble of the rivet. To ensure I got the most out of the rivet. a buddy from fleet 62 called wana go out Sat YEP :P so floating/ sinking the mast will be Sun. instaling my new shrouds and forestay's Tomorow.

I found my H-18 mast floats. However the black color of the mast heats up in the sun and when it hits the cool water the contraction of the mast and air in the mast will suck in small amounts of water. Eventually the mast will sink.

Check your mast at least once a year.

:D WOW what a great Saturday. Learned alot wind started out light and picked up to moderate good day to show # 2 son, How to tack and move around the boat sunny, water was chilled. but totaly with in tollarance. All new standing rigging. It was nice to be around someone who knows the H-16 and some tricks. I see adding 2 swivel blocks to my frame and fileing down jib cars. Harken 6:1 what a dream. I do think I will go with a smaller diameter sheet the one I have is a little heavy hard to turn down wind when one is figting the boom.

:?: any good medium diameter main sheet one that works well in Light and heavy air.

The verdict is It Floats one hour on each side it did take a small amount of water in the mast base but less than a cup :D
