EZ Step Mast System Instructions

Hi-

I just purchased my first used H16 a few weeks ago and found an EZ step system in the cat box. I don't know how to step the mast without my girl friend and think this could be a good way to go. Only problem is I don't know how to use it. Does anybody have directions I can download or want to share? Any advice on how to step my mast solo without crashing it into the car next to me in the parking lot would be great.

There are a ton of threads about stepping a H16 mast solo, if my 2 cents aren't helpful do a search and you’ll find a wealth of information. I don't use any ez step setup.

What I do is tie a line to the tong of my trailer, the other end ties to the shackle on my jib halyard.

I don't really like the dead lift of the mast, so I place it on top of a 5 foot ladder that I carry with me. This helps get it slightly above horizontal. I then put the pin through the mast base and step link.

I then step the mast (make sure you use the step link), pull the jib halyard tight and tie it off to the halyard cleat at the bottom of the mast. At this point your line and jib halyard act like the forestay. Everything's secure and you're in no rush to pin the forestay.

I then take the actual forestay and walk it around to the front of the boat and attach it to the bridal wires.

It's easy, no fancy stepping systems needed.

DANG! I was thinking of buying one of those but after reading the instructions, I don't think I will. Too confusing.

Thanks Miller for posting those instructions. The system worked beautifully once put together; although I found it to be a rather cumbersome thing to set up. I am not sure I would completely reccomend buying one; mine was essentially free, but if you don't want to screw with lifting the mast this is fairly effortless, less the pain in the ass set up.
