Thanks GDavies and turbofan for your suggestions. Just over a week to go and still undecided.

Good luck with storms coming.

Just posting here to freshen this thread - relatively new to Wilmington and very new to sailing. My fiance and are currently scoping out places to go sailing and are hope to hook up with some other cat folks in the area and maybe go out with them a time or two.

Any updates on spots around these parts? We don't have beach wheels, so we're looking for ramps. I believe some people sail around Masonboro Island. I've also seen some cats out around Bald Head and Southport (although I'm not sure if they put in from a ramp or launched from the beach). Anyone do the Cape Fear river or is the occasional large ship coming through too much of a bother/risk?

I know there a few places around Topsail/Figure 8. The New River up in Jacksonville looks enticing (although some of the best places to launch are apparently on-base so it pays to know someone with base access).

Any current cat sailors in the area (16 or otherwise)?
