I have an opportunity to pickup a new Gill Skiff Harness for around $100. I'm wondering if this skiff harness would work on an h16? From the research I did on google, it will work. What are the advantages and disadvantages? I know it doesn't have a spreader bar but it seems to be well engineered to distribute the load.

I'm more concerned about the lack of a spreader bar. For $100, I'll give it a try though.

I would be concerned about that as well. I looked on Gill's site and didn't see an offering for just the "bar" (And it's not really a bar is it? More like a hook with four separate strap connection points. Without a normal bar this harness might squeeze a bit when you're on the wire. For some people this is a real problem). In any case, nothing comes up on Google, ASP or Murray's. I can tell you my Dakine spreader bar would not be compatable with this harness. I would call Gill before buying anything.

***Edit - Apologies, Zach, I misunderstood your original post. I thought you meant you had an opportunity to purchase just the harness (no hook or bar) for $100. My concern was you'd be stuck paying an additional $100+ for a Gill bar that would be compatible with this harness. Look at it this way, your skiff harness has got to be better than the old-style butt bucket.
