Mike,
Just shipped our Magnum wings from KC to Portland, Oregon.
Crating-
I went to the discount lumber store and bought some 2x2's and 1x2's and some small (2'x4') sheets of 1/8" particle board. I also went to the outlet store to get two large appliance boxes. Built a frame, stapled cut carboard
to it, packing taped the edges and then screwed on particle board in strategic places (center of side & corners) to stiffen. Was about 96" x 42" x 14". Never weighed it but under 40 pounds easy. Cost of material about $22.
Shipping-
You are way beyond UPS or USPS dimensions so time to use a common carrier. I used a guesstimate of 98" x 48" x 18" and weight of 40 pounds to aquire a quote and tell the potential buyer the cost (I added $35 for crating). Note, shipping from business to business will save mucho bucks. To Portland just recieving at a residence the bump was $74 (has to change to a local truck line). There are many references to using "common carriers" for shipping on eBay. I was very skeptical, but it was as easy as using the post office. I used an on-line service who farmed out my "load" to the low bidder truck line. They were very helpful in determining classification and instructing me as to bill's of lading and all that.
PM me and I'll give you the company I used.
Are you going to buy another boat?
