I think I am going to start a video series in which I will aim to demonstrate just a few of the very many ways it is possible to capsize a Hobie 16.

Why not right? I am pretty good at it..

Please note the variation from more traditional capsizing methods..

Here we have your more traditional Pitchpole (listen for the laughing)

Oh... So you want to luff up into the wind to take a quick break on that day with the big shifty winds... HA!...

(the boat was successfully righted without aid of the righting line thanks to a huge gust)

Those are great! And just as entertaining as you've hoped, I assume. Keep it up! (Or over, as the case may be.)

You need to work on your dismount. Rolling overboard isn't very entertaining.

I like those videos !!! I see myself in every one of them. The only one you don`t have is the one capsizing after getting slammed on the face by the speeding boom !!!!
I think they are usefull. They can be shown to newcomers and beginners so they learn what is like, they can either call it quits, or be more prepared for when it does happen.
Thanks a lot man. I think its a great and fun idea !!!

Great. looking for the high-side into the sail crash and the crew-trap around the front debacle. Anyone?

On that Pitchpole The crew hit the backside of the jib... I was kinda bummed the camera was underwater and didn't catch all the action..

So camera position has since been changed up hoping to catch ALL the action.. 8)

This one is more a version of a traditional capsize.. The gust just came in and knocked us over.. well kinda.. I fell off into it bit expecting to pop up...... Then didn't react fast enough to recover... and my daughter just well.. was having an off day... Leading to.... well..... Normally she is pretty adventurous out there.. and we sail pretty hard for hours on end.. This day she just wasn't getting into it.. and I quit caring about how high we were popping up.. The lulls were dang near as fierce as the gusts during this time..... Normally this engages her brain and things start clicking... Not this day... Oh well...

This was her first time over ever... And we have sailed in some pretty sporty stuff..

I will have to edit this post and add a couple different flavors of this style.. It seems to be a new crew favorite..

I have a few friends that have battle scars on their legs and ass cheeks from running into the stays on a pitch pole. They still sail with me lol.

My best was out on my 18 last year.. I was out with a good friend who is even more nutty than I am.. To get us going I had raised our Trapezing levels to make sure we stayed out of the waves and whatnot to let him get a feel for things.. Once he looked comfortable and knew what was basically going on I started the "lets fly high" routine.. We are having a blast and I keep going higher and higher.. Right up to the point in which I realize I have raised the trap levels a bit to high and I am tipping over before the boat... Somehow my arm ended up pinched between his weight and the shroud... and then pulled down by my weight across the shroud.. It was a nasty bruise... The boat stayed upright.. We lowered the trap levels and kept right on sailing. 8)

Yet another :P

This is another solo capsize. (I generally try to behave a little better with crew aboard) Some people might say this is to much wind to be out solo... I had a blast and have no idea what they are talking about.. :D

Please note.. The jib was enough to do me in... :o :D It looks like there was one good smack on the main... but it is luffed and uncleated long before I am all the way over...

I don't fear the capsize, but I prefer to do it on my terms. I must not be making the proper sacrifices since the god of the wind has punished me, and from your videos you could improve your sacrifices, too.

Till you pitch pole with the spin up you haven't truely pitchpoled. With 2 big boys on a Tiger it can happen fast. Isn't that right SkipShot.

I got you back for that pitchpole. Didn't my capsize take you out for the rest of the racing season?
