I just got a Hobie Getaway, and I was wondering if anyone has ever tried sailing a Hobie with a dog? Any recommendations or warnings?

Cats and Dogs don't usually mix.

But there are exceptions.

I have not done it but have read about a guy who even trained the dog to jump onto his chest on command when he was on the trapeeze for extra leverage.

Also reccomend a life jacket for your hound as you never know how hard it will be to get them back on the boat if they fall or jump off

My dog (Eddie) loves to go sailing with me on my H18. If I don't take him he gets really upset - he's even jumped off the dock to swim after me.

He's learned to stand on the windward side up by the crossbar with his nose to the wind. Wonder if I could get a trap harness on him. Hmmm....

So far no unplanned swimming incidents for him. Yet.

Don't do anything risky like trapping out or flying hulls. Lose your balance and go overboard and the dog won't be sailing back to get you. (Actually this applies to kids or any crew that can't sail.)

Our dog "Poppy" is the same. She has gone in the drink a couple of times though.
