In trying to figure out the HIN for a 1981 Hobie 18 I was looking at the FAQ page
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1155

and on that page there is a link to details about Hobie serial numbers.
http://www.hobiecat.com/support/warrant ... erial.html

but that link is 404, is the information still available on another page?

Trying to figure out what model letters were used for 1981 Hobie 18's.

as in CCMP or CCMH

Thanks,

Sorry for the broken link, though that page didn't include the information you're looking for. I'll research it and get back to you.

Thanks Matt, is there a master list of the letters used for all the models?

Not published. I only have an office copy and not sure of reasons for posting this.

OK, the reason I want it is that I spend a lot of time trying to help owners of old Hobie Cats figure out their HIN's so can get them registered or titled. The etched letters can be very hard to read after 30+ years of sun and repairs. By knowing the possible letters for a particular model it makes it easier.

I'm sure if Hobie realized boats they built in 1983 would still be actively sailed in 2013 they would have made the numbers more durable. :D

It took 2 Trips to get mine registered. The first time I had a Number where a letter should be (on my bill of sale), went back home, looked at both sides, one looked like an "O" (confused for a #0), and the other side had a small gap which looked like it might be a "G". I told them G and it was ok. It may have been an O but State of Alabama was satisfied!
