Post subject:  Re-dek traction on top of hulls?

Has anybody used Re-Dek clear traction paint on the top of their hulls? I have a H-18 that was re-painted recently. The top of my hull is very slippery. Considering this Re-Dek product as a way to increase traction.

Thanks.

I would use a closed cell foam cemented to the deck (check NSI Foams, northshoreinc.com). Re-deck is designed for use on windsurf boards for foot traction and would be pretty aggressive to sit on. It will tear up your legs and clothes. It also has a tendency to "yellow" with age.

I used Kiwi Grip for the new deck on my fishing boat. Put it on with a notched trowel and the roll with the supplied nylon fiber roller. Soft enough to kneel on and plenty grippy.

Good tips. I like the KiwiGrip idea. Does it dry soft or hard? Will it rip a swim suit or scrape skin?

My concerns with applying the closed cell foam is that my hulls are painted with aftermarket automotive paint. I'm concerned that the paint will not have the adhesive properties of the original gel coat.

I have Hydro Mat on my jet skis, and it works great, but don't know how this adhesive+foam will work with the auto paint my hulls are covered in.

Kiwi Grip dries solid but has some give to it. It is easy on bare on bare skin. If the boat has been painted it should probably be stripped back to bare fiberglass and then primed (Awl Grip 545 epoxy primer, brushed on). A primary bond will probably last longer.

I've used spray-on truck bed coating right over top of paint. Rust-oleum has it in spray can, tape off the area, spray and remove tape. I've sold the boat but it's still holding on well, it gives a light texture of grip and is quick to do.
