Has anyone out there flipped their h18 tramp to show the undetr side up? Are there any problems doing this? I don't need pockets and I can have hiking straps sewn on. My hulls are in great shape but the tramp is faded out and UGLY!!!!!(otherwise structurally in great shape) Just askin'.........Dj |

I've got a 14 on which this was done. On my 16 it perhaps should have been done but my knee went through the tramp prior to that happening and I replaced it with a mesh tramp. The total change of tramp was pretty quick. Likely a two hour job iirc. |

the downside to reversing a vinyl tramp is the bottom is a smooth surface, compared to the top's textured finish. once it get's wet it could be slip city! |

Plus the edges of the seams all around the perimeter where the tramp sections are thermally welded will be exposed, so not as pleasant of a surface to deal with and it won't look as nice. It's certainly been done before, but really if your tramp is fried to the point that you're thinking of flipping it, it's probably getting to be about time to replace it anyway. They're a bit expensive to replace, but if you keep the tramp covered with a tarp when not being used, it will last 15 years easily and likely much longer (if it's a Hobie brand tramp). sm |

if you do not race a aftermarket mesh tramp is really a good idea a old tramp splitting and letting you down is a bad way to start a vacation or a Hobie day In the ocean it could be a safety issue Former Hobie Admiral Gary |

I've seen a couple flipped, often for a colored tramp that is faded badly but not yet "bad" If you're sailing with protective gear, the seams and such aren't as much of an issue. Does it still seem plyable or is it getting brittle? |

tom, thanks for the reply, no, the tramp is not brittle just faded badly,...yellow....the reverse side is bright. I just thought it might save me a few hundred bucks if I just flipped it...dj |
