Looking a sailing watch that is easy to use, has programable countdown timer, big numbers for easy viewing. Does not need to be flashy just needs to get the job done. Any suggestions??

It's big, but you don't need glasses to read it, either:

They've just come out with a newer version - no experience on these:

The synch feature is probably the most useful for racing.

currently I wear a Breitling Chronomat ( http://www.breitling.com/en/models/chro ... onomat-41/). Holds up in the salt water pretty well.

Breitling has a new one out for sailing with an emergency transponder built in called the emergency ( http://www.breitling.com/en/emergency/), will hopefully be my next watch.

I bought a $10 digital timex watch just for sailing. It's cheap, gets the job done and no big deal if I break or lose it.

Ok thanks for the input, so far I am looking at these 2 any opinions either way?

Freestyle Mariner

and
G-shock
http://www.amazon.com/Casio-DW9052-1V-G ... io+g-shock

The face on the G-shock is a little smaller, but I like how the buttons are a little more protected. I read some complaints with other watches that the buttons get accidentally depressed and turn off the countdown timer at the most inopportune times.

I bought the Ronstann Clear Start, although that model is no longer in production. However, it would appear that this is the same watch as the OptimumTime model shown above. Since Ronstann isn't a watch maker, I'm guessing there were having it labeled for them. The programmed countdown modes are great, although everybody else around you is going to hear it too, if that makes any difference.

I'd go with the G-shock. The big button on the front is much easier to hit with wet gloves on.

I think the big button on the G shock is only for the backlight

Then check out the timex ironman. The timer button is right on top. Tough to beat for $40

Still shopping, but this looks great for $40. If it's accurate. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Casio-Men-s-Digital-Compass-Twin-Sensor-Sport-Watch/13906115

The timers are not too sophisticated, but it's easily the most legible readout I have seen on a dual sensor watch.

Or I could buy a new boat!

Reminds me of when I needed a dive watch and wandered into a jewelry store in the mall, and the sales lady showed me a watch for "Thirty Six Ninety Five". The watch looked much too nice to be a $37 watch, so I couldn't figure out where to put the decimal point...I didn't know a Rolex from a Timex then.

Had I known what Rolex prices were going to do, I should have bought it. Maybe I will when my bitcoins stop appreciating in value. Of course, $0 is stopped too...

My my two cents would be to get the Ronstan. Honestly, it's so easy to use, so easy to see, it's a GREAT start watch. Can't go wrong with it.
