Good idea about the poll. I have added my vote but for those reading this I am 43.
I also belong to a forum on British sports cars (an other hobby of mine) and the demographics of that group seems to be the same, with most of them over 40 as well (judjing from a recent thread there about what music they like to listen to while driving - and it sounded like the top ten list from when I was in grade school).
All that to say that the comment as to the younger folks being more an online crowd is valid. If you factor that in then you see that the demographic for cat sailing might be older. Sad to think it because I got hooked on it when I was in high school. Both my kids (13 and 15) were not keen on the H18 when I first talked about it but the second they saw it and for sure the second I sheeted in the first time they were both hooked and as keen as I was back in the '70s when that first happened to me. Perhaps what is needed to get young folks interested again is to expose them to the fun of it.
Though the glass is half empty side of me thinks that it is the 'instant gratification' culture that is preventing new folks from getting into this. After all with these boats the fun comes at the cost of having to learn something (you can't just dirve it like a car as is the case with a PWC), you have to take the time to set it up (you can't just drop it off the trailer and go like the PWC) and you don't see the sexy young kids all over them in the music videos and popular press (as is the case with PWC and all sorts of other things that are big with that crowd).
I ramble on too much but the water is now too cold for me to sail and I have to do something until spring. Maybe I should go for a ride in the old car
