Dad and I built a Sailfish kit which I spent many hours on in the Adirondack lakes. Sailed Knockabouts and 44' Luders at USNA. When I was in my early 20's I started building a 55' ferro-cement ketch- never finished it. I sailed my first Hobie on my honeymoon and a few times after that when on vacations. This spring, at age 58 (and three years retired :D ), I saw a wrecked Hobie 14 by the side of the road- it got me thinking. I ended up buying an '86 a few weeks later on Ebay. I'm having a great time this Summer. I feel like a teenager when sailing (unfortunately I feel like I'm 70 the next day!!

When I was 16 I got my first truck. It wasn't long after that I saved some money and bought my first sailboat, a Hobie One . At 29 years I still have her and a Hobie 16. I love sailing and I love Hobie sailboats.

Hobie users today are substantially those who responded to the marketing impressions of the 1970s/early 80's (me, for instance.) I think that's a big problem. My primary opinion is that the Hobie marketing plan is not not keying in on the new reasons young people of today might want to own a Hobie Catamaran.

I Agree Dan P. In the early 80's I had a closet full of Hobie and OP T-shirts. This was reinforced by seeing all of the beautiful sails on the beach during my summer vacations. Even as a 5 year old I knew I badly wanted one. So first chance I got I purchased a Hobie and I have never regretted owning one since.
