Are the twist 'n seal hatches (6" diameter) a drop in replacement for the standard screw-in ports on a Hobie 18? Was thinking those might be a nice upgrade since the screw-in ports often jam and need to be unscrewed with a pair of plyers.

I put the twist 'n seal 8" on my boat and had to cut out an extra 3/16" all around to get it to fit. I hate taking a saw to the fiberglass but I do like my new access ports.

Good luck.........

It does work. You can align the forward edge of the hatch in the recess area and enlarge the access hole. Looks pretty clean. It does require some extra gasket material on the edges.

Thanks Matt.

About how much material needs to be removed from the access hole in the hull to get them to fit? Or, if you could provide the O.D. for the part of the twist 'n seal that fits into the hull and the O.D. for the mounting flange, that would be really helpful.

I see there is also an inner split flange that gets installed as well.

9" over-all diameter.

7" hole in deck required.

Line the front edge up as far forward as possible on the deck (flat / recess) and work from there. The hole will be more aft that the original by a small amount.

My screw-in deck lids are brittle and aged, and beginning to crack around the edges when they get dropped by their ham-fisted owner.

If I replace these with the T&S hatches, can I still use my cat bags?

Murrays shows O-rings for the Viking covers... any chance I can just swap in a new cover with an O-ring and have it work with the existing flange/base?
