Post subject:  GoPro mount on front and boom
Hi,

I'm looking for instructions on how to mount my Gopro Camera on my Hobie. It's a Hobie 14 Turbo, but any implementations has my interest since I expect to do some adjustments anyway. Usually I'd say that "Google is your friend" when questions like that come up but I didn't find any good instructions other than this [youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_rGFaOwNXQ&list=PLWPCOANEVzk8yPkOGGCjooA3pJoPXhldV[/youtube]. This is fine but a lot of videos is taken from underneath the jib (on the bridles?) and from the boom. How? Instructions on how to place it safe elsewhere are also appreciated.

Bolt a section of the gopro arms to the bridle is how I do it.
It will squeeze between the 2 sides of the adjuster. Then use a small bolt with a nylock nut for safe keeping.

I have almost busted it off once sending the crew into it on a pitchpole. So I rock a floaty back on the camera now just in case. I have not put it on boom but imagine you could just use a curved stick on mount.

You can also mount a broomstick to the rearbeam/tramp and secure the broomstick with some shockcord to the ruddercastings
With the camera facing forwards

You just need to think outside the square with mounting your GoPro.

Top of mast I used a hold stay adjuster which I push to a forward position. This gives the best view IMO as the rear is covered up by your main sail.

And at the front I mount attached to the hole stay adjuster (forestay bridle). I just drilled a hole in the actual display GP piece which comes in the box. I have then added afew GP mounts which help to move your GP around to specific positions/angles. This also lowers your mount so that the vision isn't blocked by your jib.

note to gopro users. Use a floaty back! I sent my crew (pitchpole) into the bridle mounted cam and busted the mount once. :mrgreen:

Better yet, tie it so something permanent with a "leash" line. I whipped up a dyneema line that kept the gopro attached to the boat in case the mount broke. I think I ran it through the hinge of the gopro case so that it would still hold even if the mount broke.

Matt that's a pretty cool mast head mount. Do you just use the app and wifi to start stop the camera or do you just turn it on and let it roll?

I saw somewhere a person made a swivel mount for the bridle, so gravity kept the gopro level with the horizon while they flew a hull. I thought that was pretty radical.

Try the tiller arm (not crossbar) with a pole mount. I tried this last time I went out, but left the camera on "narrow" FOV, so the result was garbage. On "wide" FOV it should be an interesting view to mix in with other angles. Putting it on the tiller extension pointed at you could be interesting too, especially while on the trapeze.

sfvanman I use the GP remote attached to my PDF to continually turn it on/off. You can also get the wrist bands for the remote which are handy.
Even turning it on/off I find the battery life with wifi doesn't last long so I bought a pack of Wasabi batteries. Wasabi batteries are fantastic and half the price of the genuine gp ones. The three batteries last me a full days sail so nothing great is missed!
